The central processing unit (CPU) module is equipped with a high-performance processor for fast cycle times. It has an onboard 100 Mbit/s Ethernet connection for communication between controllers, operator stations and engineers. The two serial line interfaces are connected. One interface can be used for Modbus communication, while the other is used for diagnostics.

The CPU has 10 MB of memory, of which 2 MB is the spare battery. For demanding applications, eight cycle time adjustable cycle and priority driven tasks can be configured to suck - a cycle PLC-type task that runs as fast as possible. A small front panel display displays status and diagnostic information directly on the module.

In addition, you can lock the controller by pressing a button. This means that the controller can be prevented from downloading applications and firmware for increased security. If the controller is locked or unlocked, the status will be displayed on the display.

The S700 I/O module can be plugged directly into the CPU module or used as remote I/O via PROFIBUS. A controller can be connected to a maximum of eight modules.

Third party I/ OS can be connected via MODBUS ASCI/RTU, IEC 60870-5-101 remote control protocol, or PROFIBUS. The communication speed between the CPU and the local S700 /O module is very fast. An I/O scan time of 2 milliseconds is possible. Short circuit and broken line detection are realized in each channel.
