1715-AENTR is the bulletin 1715 Redundant I/O module Ethernet /IP Adapter communication module.
One (1) pair of this adapter supports 24 I/O modules. The module features a self-moving 10/100BASE-TX Ethernet port for device level ring networking (DLR) and star topology.
The 1715-AENTR Ethernet adapter module is manufactured by Allen-Bradley for the 1715 redundant I/O system.
The module supports a device-level ring network (DLR) or startup topology through dual Ethernet communication ports with automatic sensing.
It acts as a "proxy" module for all Ethernet I/P messages going to and from the redundant I/O module.
This redundant I/O family is designed for the ControlLogix family of programmable Automation controllers (PACs).
Implementing redundant I/O systems and redundant communication networks increases process uptime and reduces the risk of unnecessary system downtime.
However, when this module is used in simplex mode, redundant Ethernet networks can be implemented.
The failure of a single adapter module can interrupt the entire communication network.
If used in duplex mode, the failure of one of the two (2) modules will not affect the communication network. In this way, system availability is improved.
