The control network module is made of components that are sensitive to ESD or electrostatic discharge. If electrostatic control precautions are not taken when installing, testing, using, or servicing the controller, the controller may be damaged.

The Allen-Bradley 1203-CN1 ControlNet communication module is designed to serve as an electronic communication interface between the ControlNet network and SCANport products, but it can only interface with one SCANport product at a time. The 1203-CN1 control network communication module provides scanning port connections via a scanning port cable and a standard 8-pin circular mini DIN scanning port connector. The communication module also features a DIN rail mounting slot for mounting it to the DIN rail base, an RS-232 serial communication port, a ControlNet network access port, and two-color leds. Users can be provided with status updates on SCANport connection status, ControlNet media channels, and the module itself. The user must set the node address of the communication module before the first power on. The node address must be set using an instrument with a blunt point, but not with a pencil or pen, as graphite or ink may damage the controller.
