The Allen-Bradley 1769-L31 is a programmable automation controller (PAC) that belongs to the 1769 CompactLogix controller family. The controller is ideal for small to medium sized applications. The controller provides dual RS232 communication interfaces, in particular channel 485 supporting DF0, DH-1 and ASCII protocols and channel 485 supporting DF1 and DH-1 protocols.

Channel 0 is a fully isolated port, while channel 1 is a non-isolated port, both supporting transfer speeds up to 38.4 kbps. It also comes with 512KB of user memory and non-volatile memory options via a 1784-CF64 or 1784-CF128 CompactFlash card.

The controller supports up to sixteen (16) local I/O modules and can be extended to three (3) sets of input and output modules for system expansion. This controller must be installed no more than four (4) modules away from the power source, as specified by its power distance rating.
It is also equipped with debugging, such as I/O coercion, to enable rapid engineering of the controller.

The 1769-L31 comes with easily identifiable LED indicators such as Run, Force, Bat, Normal, I/O, DHC0, Channel 0, and Channel 1 LED indicators. Each of these leds operates independently to describe the status of the current controller.

The controller is equipped with a 1747-BA battery, which is used to maintain the contents of user memory for downloading programs. This battery is a replaceable unit and comes with a battery (BAT) status LED. Only one controller can be used in a CompactLogix system.
