The 1786-RPFM is an Allen-Bradley ControlNet attachment. The module is a panel mount/DIN rail mount device used as a ControlNet modular repeater mid-range fiber optic module.

The module is used to convert Cox cables into fiber optic media over a maximum distance of 3,000 meters or 9,843 feet. Fiber optic links provide isolation between connected nodes and improve immunity to noise and electrical interference. The optical fiber link of the module requires the use of 62.5/125 micron fiber cable, OM1 multi-mode fiber cable.

The 1786-RPFM is used with the 1786-RPA ControlNet repeater adapter module. Up to four (4) 1786-RPFMs can be used with one 1786-RPA. In addition, mixing repeater types is allowed when assembling the ControlNet network. The maximum allowable total power consumption is 1.6A@5V DC without damaging the module repeater adapter and nearby modules.

When used with point-to-point or trunk topologies, the 1786-RPFM is ideal for extending the total length of one (1) ControlNet network segment. It can also be used when planning to build star and ring topologies to build a network with multiple directions from a single point. In addition, these fiber optic converters and repeater modules can be used if applications span industrial sites known to have high electrical noise levels and hazardous areas. The maximum attenuation of the cable shall not be higher than 13.3 dB. Typically, cables with a wavelength of 1300 nm have attenuation less than 1.5 dB/km.RSnetWorx

It can be used to configure ControlNet properties and verify that the system being assembled meets ControlNet requirements.
