The Allen-Bradley 2711P-RN16 is an optional communication adapter. The adapter is installed on top of the existing logic module and supports Data High Speed Enhanced (DH+), remote I/O (RIO) and DH-485 network connectivity. It is compatible with PanelView Plus/PanelView Plus CE and PanelView Plus 6 graphics operating terminals. Specifically, it can only be installed on operating terminals with screen sizes ranging from 7 inches to 15 inches or 700 to 1500 inches. When used with the PanelView Plus 6, only Data High Speed Enhanced (DH+) and DH485 are supported, as the PanelView Plus 6 does not support native remote I/O communication, even with the 2711P-RN6 communication module. In addition, the 2711P-RN6 is not compatible with the PanelView Plus 7 graphics operator terminal.

The 2711P-RN6 is equipped with one (1) DH485 port and one (1) DH+ / RIO communication port. Both ports are Phoenix connectors, with the DH485 having six pins and the DH+ / RIO having three connecting pins. In addition, this communication adapter has two (2) LED status indicators indicating that the channel is not online when off, the device is only a node on the network when green is blinking, the device is online and receives the token when steady green, DH-485: Duplicate node /DH+ : Parity error when blinking red, self-check failure when steady red.

DH+ and RIO networks support multi-node communication and can cover long distances. These communication protocols support Daisy chain topology and fast data transfer rates. It requires the use of 1770-CD or Belden Blue Hose cable. For DH-485 communication, it also supports Daisy chain topology, which requires the use of Belton #3106A or #9842.
