Inference can be performed directly in real time using TwinCAT TcCOM objects, that is, executing a trained ML model. For smaller networks, system response times of less than 100 s are supported, which corresponds to a TwinCAT cycle time of 50 s. The model can be invoked through a PLC, C/C++ TcCOM interface, or a circular task.

Through seamless integration with control technology, the multi-core support provided by TwinCAT 3 can also be used for machine learning applications. This means, for example, that different task contexts can access a particular TwinCAT 3 inference engine without limiting each other. All available fieldbus interfaces and data in TwinCAT are also fully accessible. This allows ML solutions to use large amounts of data, for example, for complex sensor data fusion (data merging), which also means that the real-time interface of the actuator can be used to achieve optimal control, etc.
