PCD231B101励磁装置主要分为电磁型和半导体型两大类。电磁型励磁装置主要用于以直流或交流励磁机为励磁电源的励磁系统中,半导体型励磁装置既可以与励磁机一起组成静止(或旋转)整流器励磁系统，也可以与励磁变压器组成静止励磁系统。

目前中国出口的励磁装置型号，适用范围及主要构成部分(如表)各生产厂除供应定型产品外，还可根据用户需要进行设计和制造。

PCD231B101按整流方式可分为旋转式励磁和静止式励磁两大类。其中旋转式励磁又包括直流交流和无刷励磁;静止式励磁包括电势源静止励磁机和复合电源静止励磁机。
