The CPU motherboard contains a microprocessor and RAM, a real-time clock, LED indicators, a start button, and a compact flash interface.
The baseplate of the PM865 controller has two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for connecting to the control network, and two RJ45 serial ports (COM3, COM4). One of the serial ports (COM3) is the RS-232C port with the modem control signal, while the other port (COM4) is isolated and used to connect to the configuration tool. The controller supports CPU redundancy for high availability (CPU, CEX bus, communication interface, and S800 I/O).
High integrity functionality can be achieved by adding the SM81x module and SIL certification software. This enables the non-critical control scheme to be upgraded to the SIL certification scheme by adding the SM81x module and selecting the appropriate software. The AC 800M High Integrity also provides IEC 61508 and TUV certified control environments for combining security and business-critical process control in a single controller unit without sacrificing safety integrity.
