In the SPAD346C3 differential protection relay, the fundamental frequency component is digitally filtered with a Fourier filter. The filter will suppress frequencies other than the set base frequency, so the relay is not suitable for measuring the output of the inverter, that is, the relay is not suitable for protecting the power transformer or motor powered by the inverter.
Protection of short overhead lines or cable lines SPAD346C3 can be used for differential protection of overhead lines or cable lines. If the distance between measurement points is relatively long, a CT may need to be inserted to reduce the burden on the CT. The longer the distance between the CT and the protective relay, the higher the CT load (due to the resistance of the connecting wire). In addition, the actual accuracy limiting factor of CT may be too low to meet the requirements of differential protection. It is usually sufficient to use a secondary current of 1A instead of 5A. For example, if the total resistance of the secondary wire is 1.0 ohms and 5A secondary current rating is used, the CT load will be (5A) 2 x 1.0ω =25 VA. Rather than over-adjusting the CTVA rating to compensate for the increased burden, it is better to increase the CT ratio. If 1A rated secondary current is used, the load is only (1A) 2×1.0Ω=1 VA.3.6.1.
