In the current transformer/voltage transformer module of the General purpose relay series, GE Multiwire's UR-8AH offers a 1A/5A phase current transformer, a 1A/5A ground current transformer, and four voltage transformers for UR relays. Voltage transformers and current transformers narrow the voltage and current values of a power system to a value that a general purpose relay can recognize and regulate.

The module also improves the overall safety of the operator, as the secondary winding portion of the transformer must be grounded.
