This document describes the 140CRA31908 adapter module. Use this module to modernize the S908 architecture to the M580 system.
Quantum or 984 cpu drives the S908 non-Ethernet Rio architecture. When you install the 140CRA31908 module in the X80 slot of the M580 system, you can connect the S908 architecture to that X80 slot and allow the S908 network to communicate with the M580 network.
Note: The 140CRA31908 module is not compatible with the Quantum Ethernet I/O architecture; The module cannot be scanned by the quantum 140CRP31200 communication module.
Note: The specific configuration Settings included in this guide are for instructional purposes only. The Settings required for a particular configuration may differ from the examples provided in this guide.

Two Ethernet ports allow for implicit I/O exchange with the M580 ePAC over the EIO network. (The maximum frame size for an implicit I/O exchange is 1,400 bytes.) When you connect the 140CRA31908 module to the Ethernet master ring, you can use two Ethernet ports.
A maximum of 31 adapters are supported in a single EIO network. For details about the network topology, see the Modicon M580 Dual-System Hot Backup, Common Architecture System Planning Guide (see the Modicon M580 Dual-System Hot Backup, Common Architecture System Planning Guide).

Identification of the S908 bus I/O master
In the configuration of a single 140CRA31908 module, 140CRA31908 is the I/O host for the S908 bus.
In a configuration with a redundant 140cr31908 module, the Com Act LED on the 140CRP93•00 module identifies the I/O host.
